First of all…how adorable is my little guy? Okay moving on.
We often get asked why we chose the name Kiah and what it means? Heeva and I always wanted our kids to have names ending with “a” or in this case “ah” – since our names both end with a we wanted to keep the theme going. The hardest thing was for us to both love a name. There was a lot on our list Noah, Elijah, Aria, Illia just to name a few but we weren’t passionate about any of those names. We really wanted something unique, meaningful and that both Americans and Persians could easily say (trust me, Persians trying to say a name that they can’t is just a disaster lol). The name Kiah was one of my top favorites, I loved that it was Persian and I loved that it would be easy for everyone to pronounce. More than anything I loved the meaning it had. In farsi Kiah means Royal and in Swedish it means Follower of Christ. <3
Kiah is traditionally spelled KIA like the car which was Heeva’s biggest concern. To be honest I never ever think of the car but I guess I can’t deny the fact that some people do haha. I suggested adding the H to differentiate it a little and once I suggested it, Heeva was sold! I was about 25 weeks pregnant (a little more than half way) when we finalized the name and it was my favorite thing to refer to him as Kiah. He became that much more real! And now we almost always refer to him as Kiki – I’m sure he will hate that once he’s older haha. But it just matches him so well 🙂
His middle name is kind of a funny story. While I was pregnant the Warriors won the championship which was a really big deal especially to Heeva who is a die hard sports fanatic! He really wanted Kiah’s middle name to somehow pay tribute to the Warriors winning. His favorite player is Stephen Curry who’s real name is Wardell. He suggested Wardell and I absolutely refused to do that to my child! And I thought Stephen was a little blah and Curry was out of the question! So that left us with the other splash brother Klay Thompson! We thought Kiah Klay had a nice ring to it and so that’s what we went with! At one point Heeva did recommend “Raider” and he was 100% serious so unless they win the Superbowl anytime soon (which I highly doubt) that will NEVER happen 😉
